Friday Diary: International Gift Fair

As I said in my post rounding up WWM favorites from British design great SCP, my interest in the New York International Gift Fair offering this year was initially piqued because of a press release I received from SCP announcing that they will be presenting their 2011 collection during the fair (and then again at Maison Objet in Paris). I must admit the New York Gift Fair has not been on my radar in a long time. Partially because I live in Europe even though of course the ICFF has been, but also because I remember being disappointed. I recall seeing rows upon rows of schmaltzy goods. No more. Now it looks like they’re making a real effort.

Here’s what they’re offering:

handmade® designer maker

Handmade® Designer Maker will showcase 360 designer maker resources from across the United States and around the world, with a focus on limited-production makers across all categories and media.

handmade® global design

Handmade® Global Design will present 200 global import resources with a focus on good design, traditional craftsmanship, and community building through global artisan workshops.

That sounds worth a visit if you’re in New York this sweltering August or shopping the gift fair for your retail store. First though, take head over to ‘Accent On Design’ where the design biggies like SCP and Alessi will be showing and then head on over to visit the two listed above. It sounds promising.
